Pool care for your climate
Start with the weather your pool actually gets. Even in the same state, pool care can look different from one backyard to the next.

Before the cover goes on
Get your records together, check the water, and make a plan before closing day. This is a preparation check, not a set of winterizing instructions.

A quick check to spot changes and plan the next job. Water testing may take longer depending on your kit. Cleaning, repairs, and winterizing the pool are separate jobs.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Find the right instructions | Keep the pool, cover, and equipment manuals together. Confirm who is closing the pool and the appointment date. |
| Take a last set of readings | While the pool is operating, record sanitizer and pH, plus supporting tests due for your system. Follow your kit and product labels. |
| Look at the water and pool | Note clarity, debris, stains, and water level. Record damage or unusual water loss before the cover hides it. |
| Save the equipment baseline | Record pump speed, pressure, and flow while safely operating. Photograph labels and valve positions. Do not restart winterized equipment for this check. |
| Check the cover and barriers | From the deck, check cover condition, hardware, gates, and latches. Never walk on a cover or assume every cover is a safety cover. |
| Confirm the freeze plan | Confirm the plan for plumbing, equipment, and power loss. Use your exact system instructions and qualified help for unfamiliar winterizing work. |
| Plan storage and follow-up | Follow label storage instructions. Keep chemicals in their original containers, separated as directed and out of children's reach. |
| Write down the next job | List repairs, the closing appointment, and the next cover and water-level check. Save today's readings for spring. |
